• It'd stopped raining when we walked back to our rooms arm in arm. It smelt fresher but puddles full of weeks of accumulated road dirt lay in the gutters. Splashed up by passing cars we kept in, away from the dirty water.
• We passed a garage selling Ford cars. Older Cortinas, Escorts and even an Anglia were parked outside. The showroom had a shiny new bronze-coloured Mark Three Cortina GXL standing in it. I wasn't a car person but I did like what I was looking at.
